In 2002, when Istanbul was on the cusp of the past decade's monumental change and development, three friends - Canan Özdemir, Ferit Baltacıoğlu and Ramazan Üren - opened a pioneering café. Located inside an apartment building in the fashionable neighborhood of Tesvikiye, they named it, appropriately, "The House Café". Keeping things in the family, the partners worked with Canan Özdemir's sister, Seyhan Özdemir - one half of the award-winning Turkish design duo Autoban, together with Sefer Çağlar - on the design of the café. The unique blend of Turkish and international café fare added to a homey atmosphere was a runaway hit; today, there are 12 branches in total.

Having set new standards in homegrown dining and hospitality, Canan and Ferit began their most ambitious venture - The House Hotel chain - in 2007, taking on Kerten Private Equity as a partner. Designed by Autoban,in July 2010 in the stylish neighborhood of Nişantaşı, and the third in June 2011 in a restored private villa on the Bosphorus. The fourth addition to The House Hotel Collection: Vault Karaköy, The House Hotel, is located in the hip and up-an-coming neighborhood of Karaköy. It is set in the neo- Renaissance 1863 former Credit General Ottoman building, later the Sümerbank headquarters on Bankalar Caddesi.

The House Hotel Collection is continuing to offer affordable luxury and intimate service in settings that are unique to Istanbul, while Vault Karakoy, The House Hotel highlights Art & Culture, blending classic and contemporary styles, thus bringing together visions of Ancient and Modern Istanbul. In June 2015, The House Hotel launched its first hotel outside Istanbul, The House Hotel Cappadocia, set in Turkey’s most iconic landscape.
